Okay, so you have yourself short-term and long-term goals for weight loss.  And you are working out, getting a mix of aerobic and weight training exercises.  Great!  You’ve got most of it nailed down.  But to really lose weight, you’re not going to want to leave out this missing step.

Blast off those pounds fast

Third, you must change your diet — I know you probably saw this one coming from a mile away.  It’s no surprise that diet is a very critical element to weight loss.  What you eat is a major contributor to being overweight as well as a host of other diseases that come from an unhealthy diet such as heart disease and diabetes.  It’s sad, but Americans get approximately 40% of the calories that they eat from fatty foods.  That’s just plain not good for you, and chances are, you already know it.

Start by choosing lean meats when you go grocery shopping.  These are great sources of protein, which is essential for feeding your muscles so that they can burn away your fat.  A good rule of thumb for protein is that you should eat one gram of protein for each pound in your target weight.  So, if you wanted to weigh 130 pounds, for example, you should eat 130 grams of protein each day.  Simple enough.

You will also want to minimize the amount of carbohydrates you eat too.  Try to avoid white flour.  I know it’s much cheaper, but the way it’s made involves stripping it of nearly all of its nutritional value.  Be on the lookout for products that contain white flour and avoid them.  Buy bread, pasta, and cereals that are made from whole grain.  These are much better for you and they will help you really lose weight.

Fiber is something you don’t want to overlook either.  Fiber will help you with digestion and aid in cleaning out your digestive tract so that you can get all the nutrition out of the other foods you eat.

So, you see it doesn’t have to be complicated to really lose weight.  I know there are a lot of things out there that promise you the world and claim you can watch the pounds melt away while you sit on your couch eating junk food.  Truth is these won’t help you lose the weight.  Even if they did, you’d still have the same habits and as soon as you stopped taking them, you’d gain all that weight back.  Losing weight really is as simple as setting your target wieght, exercising properly, and eating the right foods.  Follow this plan rigorously and you’ll find that you’ll be dropping those pounds.
